Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before using Defa.lk. By accessing or using our platform you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. About the Platform

Defa.lk is an online classifieds marketplace operated by Defa Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, incorporated in Sri Lanka. We provide a platform for individuals and businesses to advertise goods and services. We are not a party to any transaction between users and do not handle payments, deliveries or disputes arising from those transactions.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to post ads on Defa.lk. By registering you confirm that all information you provide is accurate, current and your own.

3. Account Responsibility

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@defa.lk if you suspect unauthorised access. We reserve the right to suspend or permanently close accounts that violate these terms.

4. Listing Fees

During our introductory launch period, posting ads is free for all registered users. We intend to introduce a small listing fee in the future. When fees are introduced:

• The applicable fee will be displayed clearly before you submit your ad.
• Payment must be completed before the ad is submitted for review.
• Fees are non-refundable once the ad has been reviewed, whether approved or rejected.
• We will give registered users reasonable advance notice before any fee structure takes effect.

5. Ad Authenticity & Duplicate Listings

Every ad posted on Defa.lk must represent a genuine, currently available item or service. The following practices are strictly prohibited and will result in ad removal and possible account suspension:

• Posting the same item or service in multiple listings simultaneously.
• Deleting and reposting an ad to artificially reset its position in search results.
• Creating multiple accounts to post the same listing across accounts.
• Listing items that are already sold, rented or no longer available.

If your ad has expired, use the Renew option in your dashboard. This refreshes your ad's timestamp fairly without circumventing our ranking system.

6. Content Rules — What You May Post

When posting you confirm that:

• You own the item or are legally authorised to sell or rent it.
• All details — title, description, price, condition and photos — are accurate and not misleading.
• Your listing does not violate any applicable Sri Lankan law or regulation.
• All photos are your own or you have the right to use them.

7. Prohibited Content

The following are strictly prohibited on Defa.lk:

• Illegal goods, counterfeit products or stolen property.
• Weapons, ammunition, drugs or controlled substances.
• Adult or sexually explicit material.
• Fraudulent, scam or phishing listings.
• Hate speech, harassment or defamatory content.
• Protected wildlife or environmentally controlled species.
• Any service or item that facilitates illegal activity.

We reserve the right to remove any listing and suspend any account at our sole discretion, without prior notice, if we determine that it violates these terms or harms our platform or users.

8. Transactions Between Users

Defa.lk does not process payments between buyers and sellers, nor does it guarantee the quality, safety or legality of any listed item. All transactions are arranged directly between users. We strongly advise:

• Meeting in a safe, public location for the first transaction.
• Inspecting the item carefully before making any payment.
• Never transferring money in advance to someone you have not met.

9. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of content you post. By posting, you grant Defa.lk a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce and distribute your content for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform. All other intellectual property on Defa.lk — including our name, logo, design and code — belongs to Defa Technologies (Pvt) Ltd.

10. Moderation & Enforcement

We review all ads before they are published. Ads that violate our rules will be rejected with a reason provided. Repeated violations will result in account suspension. We do not offer refunds of listing fees for ads that are removed due to policy violations.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

Defa.lk is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free, nor do we make any guarantees regarding the accuracy or completeness of any listing content.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Sri Lankan law, Defa Technologies (Pvt) Ltd shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from: transactions between users, reliance on listing content, unauthorised access to your account, or any interruption of the platform service.

13. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions at any time. We will notify registered users of significant changes via email or a notice on the platform. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
